URC Utah Race Circuit
We are starting a race circuit similar to the USATF Long Distance Race Circuit (LDRC).
Utah race directors may join the circuit for $100 each. This will be $400 less than the USATF charges. In order to charge this lower rate, the circuit will be simplified to reduce administration fees that come from time consuming activities such as tabulating points for participants or costly computer programs that do this. Participants are responsible to report all races that they participate in, and points will be simple.
The money the race director pays will go directly to the top 3 winners of the circuit at the end of the circuit. The prizes will be $300, $200, and $100, men and women, totaling $1000, so we will have 10 races.
To be eligible for prizes, you must be a member of the Utah Running Club, which costs $10 per year, or you may volunteer 1 hour or trade services, etc.
Points will be awarded to the top 3 men and women in each race, whether or not they are members of the club, and points will also be awarded to all those who participate who are members of the club. Members must e-mail utahrunningclub@gmail.com after each race in order to get points.
Points will be as follows for every race distance:
1st place: 30 points
2nd place: 20 points
3rd place: 10 points
Participant in race (not top 3): 5 points
Runners may join the club at any time of the year and still be eligible to win prize money prior to the last race of the circuit. The top 3 are not required to report their points. (It is simple and easy to for us to get these points figured out.)
The incentives for race directors to join the circuit is that URC will advertise your races and bring more people to your races, and those who come to run the race because it is a circuit race will cumulatively pay more to enter the race than you will have paid to join the circuit. For example, if we help bring 10 additional people to your race, and they each pay $20 to get in, that is $200 -(minus) $100 that you paid to join the circuit = $100 profit for you (minus cost of shirts, etc). We expect to bring many more participants than just 10 people, however. The USATF LDRC has about 100 members. We hope to get our numbers at least that high, and hopefully higher.
Unlike the LDRC, we will not be requiring race directors to pay prize money to the top 3 men and women at the race as well, or requiring the course to be USATF certified, although we prefer these things, and will actively seek out races for the circuit that offer incentives to the runners, especially based on performance standards.
If you are interested in joining the next circuit, which will start as soon as all slots are filled, contact us at utahrunningclub@gmail.com or call 801-473-3969. Thank you.
