RACE DIRECTORS:
Get your race listed on the Utah Running Guide Flyer to be placed at running and athletic stores around the state, a logo on the site, and 450+ facebook invites sent out for a trade of only $50 check or cash or $100 worth of race entries* (discounts available)!
*Pro-ration is possible. For example, if your race is only 2 weeks away, it will cost $25 by check, or $50 of free entries. Rates depend on race location and prizes offered.
Save on the COST of printing your own flyers and save TIME passing out of flyers and calling race directors to put them in goody bags!
Pictured to the right is the flyer/poster that has been circulated as of July 27, 2010:
*The number of flyers distributed depends on when you get on the flyer. You can rest assured that we will pass out the flyers, and that they won’t get thrown away because we run out of time to put them in goody bags. Since we both share a vested interest in advertising our individual races on the flyer, we want to make sure runners get these flyers just as much as you do!
To help with the cost of printing, gas money to travel to races, and for the hours it takes to update and distribute them we ask that you do one or more of the following:
- make a payment of $50/month (or $10/week) by check
- offer $100 worth of free race entries/month for Mary Ann to give to ANY member of Utah Running Club (or for Mary Ann’s personal use) or to the members of the facebook group “UtahRunningGuide.com”. These race entries must be full and complete, regular entries with all the benefits that other runners get who pay to run the race, including t-shirts, eligibility for overall prizes, drawings, etc. (Race entry trades are only possible for races that offer prizes that have a cash value for top runners and that are strictly running events (no triathlons, snow-shoes, etc.) All other races must pay by check/cash only.)
- hang this flyer in your athletic store and put a stack of them in an obvious place for people to take year round
- volunteer before/during/after the Utah Running Club events
- offer other compensation/trade to our club.
Get discounts for the following criteria:
- 20% off if within 50 miles of Provo, UT (North SLC, Park City, Nephi, etc.)
- 15% off if within 100 miles of Provo (Ogden, Brigham City, Duchesne, Fillmore, Evanston, WY, etc.)
- 10% off if within 150 miles of Provo (Logan, Beaver, Green River, UT, Vernal, Malad City, ID, etc.)
- 5% off if within 200 miles of Provo (Moab, Cedar City, Green River, WY, Pocatello, ID)
- 5% off for every 100 URG flyers you put in your goody bags (if Mary Ann Schauerhamer, creator of the flyers, will be participating in the race, so that we know for sure that they end up in the bags)
- 5% off if your race is part of the USATF LDR (Long Distance Race) Circuit
- 1% off if you give out prizes to the top over-all males & females (and/or age division winners) worth at least $100 in cash value (1% off for every $100 of prizes). Discount cards and coupons used as prizes for food or that are less than 50% off do not count. Prizes for entertainment (except movie rentals and movies for sale) do not count. Prizes that count include cash, gift certificates or gift cards to businesses or stores that sell necessities such as clothing, food, house hold items, etc. Prizes such as tickets to plays, athletic spectator events, games, or store credit for craft items, artwork, books, etc. don’t count. Hotel stays count if you can use the hotel in other locations than your hometown in Utah. Spa packages count if they include deep tissue massage. Do not feel that you need to change your prizes just because we reward race directors who have prizes that meet our discount criteria. We appreciate that you are offering prizes based on running performance rather than just random luck in your drawing, as do other runners who train hard and appreciate being rewarded for their hard work.
OTHER ADVANTAGES INCLUDED IN YOUR ADVERTISING PACKAGE:
- We will put up a direct link, logo, and complete info on this website
- We will send a facebook invitation to the Utah Running Guide group (over 400 members now and constantly growing!)
*You can not pick and choose only certain forms of advertising. You must opt to all options.
ADDITIONAL ADVERTISING OPTION:
We can also pass out your flyer for $10 for every 100 flyers, check or cash only, paid in advanced.
Call 801-473-3969 or e-mail UtahRunningClub@gmail.com if you are interested. Thank you!
More details:
Please make checks written out to “Mary Ann Schauerhamer,” mailed to 265 E 200 N, Apt 21, Provo, UT, 84606. If you would like your event to appear year-round, it will cost $600 in a check, or $1200 worth of free entries minus any discounts.
If you opt to trade for free entries, these will need to be regular entries, including everything that a paid runner would receive, including such things that you give other paid runners such as a t-shirt, entry to a drawing, showing up in results, eligibility to win placement prizes and awards, refreshments, etc. If you don’t have online registration that will allow free or discounted entries, it is usually best to accept a mail-in entry or e-mail if there are no late fees.
If your event costs $20 pre-registered, for example, then you would offer us 4 free entries if they sign up on time. If it costs $25 for late registration, and I have already given out the 4 entries, each runner would be responsible to mail in the additional $5 late fee with their entry form. If you have multiple events with different prices for each, such as a 10K for $30, and a 5K for $20, we could either offer 2 free entries for the 10K and 1 entry to the 5K to total $80, or another combination that came to $80 or more, but if the entries went over the total, the runners would mail in the remaining amount. We can also offer a discount for multiple runners that will attract several runners to your event, such as $10 off 8 people, and they would each mail in the remaining amount. We will discuss your individual event and tailor it to your needs.
I would also ask that you put the Utah Running Guide flyers in your goody bags or allow me to put them in them for you (I know how time consuming this can be.) In exchange, we will be happy to pass our your flyers in the same amount before your event.
To thank you for your contribution, I will put a direct link and a color logo for one race for each month on the “Races” page (the page users go to before choosing the month they want to look for races at) for the race that offers the most to our club that month. The race that offers the most out of all races will be featured on the top of the homepage. Financial contribution will count for more than free entries in this regard.
I really appreciate your help and I look forward to adding any way I can to your spectacular event!

“FREE” RACE ENTRY INFORMATION FOR RUNNERS:
Thanks to all of you who RSVP for to race invitations I send to the facebook group (”Utah Running Guide .com”)! Some entries go fast, but some race entries don’t even get used for other races, so don’t be discouraged! Keep replying to the messages when you want a free entry if you don’t know if they have been taken yet or not even if it has been a few days since the message was sent.
To see if there are any more free entries for other races in the future, once the message about free race entries has been sent out, you can simply look on www.UtahRunningGuide.com at the race calendar, and find the race listing by month and date. Then look in the far right column and you will see how many free entries I have for that race and how many have been given out so far and how many are remaining, and the names (or initials) of the people who got them. If it is confusing to understand, you can still inquire about them to see if they are still available.
PLEASE use the free entries if you win them, or let me know ASAP if you can’t participate so someone else can use the entry. I spend a LOT of time working with race directors to get the entries as trades, working to advertise for them with flyers and posters, which cost me money out of my own pocket to print, gas money to distribute them all over the place, and hours putting logos and information about the races on www.UtahRunningGuide.com and the facebook group. If you decide you can’t run the race after all, even if it is late, shoot me a text or an e-mail.
The process of redeeming the free entries is not always smooth, and I’m trying to make it easier for both race directors and recipients to get registered for races without confusion and lots of hassle. Each race director has their own method and time line for how and when to get the free entries. I’m trying to get race directors to just accept an e-mail from the participant containing their information that would be on an entry form, which is the easiest method for the participant. Some want you to use their online registration, and enter a code that gives you a free or discounted entry, which is equally easy. The main thing I need to work on is getting the entries out early so that if there are any kinks, like race directors being too busy to check their email the day before, or the race director not being available, or the volunteers not giving you a free entry because they haven’t been informed by the race director to expect you, I can smooth things out for you.
If you ever experience difficulty or confusion in trying to use your free entry, please let me know asap. I need to make sure that race directors aren’t making things difficult for you, or giving you the run around, and that I am not doing the same to them. Also, these race entries are supposed to be full and complete and normal entries, meaning that you should get all the benefits and perks that other participants enjoy, including such things as a t-shirt or other swag that everyone else gets, goody bags, race bib, timing, results, drawing entries, medals, prize eligibility, etc. If a race director tells you you have to wait for other participants to get their things before you because you were “free”, let me know. You should be treated equally because the entry isn’t really “free.” It is a trade for my work, time, and money I have spent to get it for you.
I’m a bit swamped, to say the least, so I will try my best to get on top of that! That’s why the prices (or amount of free entries required for a trade) for race directors has increased recently, because the work load is overwhelming and more and more race directors are wanting advertising. I’m excited to see the growth because I think this is a mutually benefiting trade for all of us.
If you would like to help out, that would be great! I do most of the work myself usually, but if you want a guaranteed “free” entry, all you need to do is ask a race director of your choice to please use my advertising, and if they accept your request, you can have one of the entries/discounts (or a portion of them if there is only 1 entry/discount, ie. a relay that costs $1000, we would need some of it to offer to the club). They need to agree to the prices listed on the bottom of the homepage of www.UtahRunningGuide.com, which is based off of how long they want advertising (if they can’t afford the full month, I can advertise for as short of a period as they want at a pro-rated cost). There are discounts for races close to Utah Running Club and those that give out good prizes.
Another way to get them is to come running with Utah Running Club and you will get credit towards free entries and will be offered them before other groups.
For the next best chance, join the facebook group “Utah Running Club Contributing Members Only,” which gets the invites after them. To join this group, you can simply attend one practice with Utah Running Club each year, do something to contribute to the club, or pay $10 once each year, which you can mail to me.
